In speaking concerning the Women's Division of the Union Gospel Mission of Dallas, Texas. I was new to Dallas, Texas and have exhausted current funding on a hotel for me and my child when someone referred me to this place for assistance. I initially thought that this place was good because it is a Christian facility, conducive to single women and their children, providing up to 90 days of shelter, breakfast, dinner and health services. Ultimately, what I found to be fact was that they discriminated against people, denied resourceful services, criticized and degraded single women in front of their children, kicked mothers out and their children regardless of the situation with no second chance of returning, lied and falsely accused those that did not violate any rules or standards to the facility, covered up for violation of a married, male chaplin sleeping with a client staying in the facility during his shift and continual sexual harassment against some others. As an Christian facility and outreach Ministry that were suppose to be uplifting, re-establishing women in society to where they can transition independently into their own homes with their children; it was just the opposite. A disgrace to our community with no genuine intention on helping those in need.

Horrible. My daughter went there. They are so criticizing!! They criticized my daughter and grandson just made them feel not welcome . If you are a single mother trying to make a way but at the same time you have nowhere to go... Don't go here!!!!. There's better.

  • I came to Texas from NJ While I was waiting for my HA Apartment to become available. I stayed at the Salvation Army for 35 days and was told that I needed to find another shelter. I was told about a shelter on Cass Street. Which was not far from the Salvation Army. I applied that afternoon. They processed my paperwork and registered transportation to take me to my new temporary home. Little did I know that The Lord wanted me to return to NJ. That day I recieved word from the Housing Authority that my apartment had become available and that I had to claim it by Tuesday. It was Friday. I met the house mother to the unit I was assigned to. Sweet person. Made me feel very comfortable. They had church on site. It was wonderful. I gave my testimony about my apartment being available. I had a good nights sleep. Woke up, dressed, signed out for day. Never spoke to the house mother. I was gone. That place is beautiful. I SHOULD HAVE STAYED. I STILL DON'T LIKE IT HERE. I AM GOING TO TRY AND MAKE IT WORK ONE LAST TIME!!! IF IT DON'T WORK THIS TIME I AM HEADED BACK TO TEXAS PERMANENTLY. I ALREADY MISS My CHURCH I JOINED. FULL GOSPEL HOLY TEMPLE: APOSTLE MURRAY. ONLY SPENT ONE SUNDAY WITH THEM. THE UNION MISSION'S CENTER OF HOPE. WAS BEAUTIFUL FOR A NIGHT. THE SERVICES ARE ENCOURAGING AND YOU CAN GET A PRAYER THROUGH. ONE OF THE MINISTERS TOLD ME I REMINDED HER OF THE PRAYING LADY THAT PRAYED IN HER CLOSET IN THE MOVIE: WAR ROOM. WHEN I MOVED INTO MY APARTMENT I BOUGHT THE VIDEO. THE MINISTER WAS RIGHT. THEY WERE WONDERFUL PEOPLE!!! IF ANYONE GETS SELECTED TO STAY THERE DON'T BLOW YOUR OPPORTUNITY. I BLEW MINE!!! I MAY NOT BE ABLE TO GET BACK IN IF THINGS DON'T WORK OUT HERE. TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THE OPPORTUNITY. THE PEOPLE THERE REALLY WANT TO HELP YOU. BE BLESSED, IN JESUS NAME!!!

  • I love volunteering and went to college for a degree in Applied Rehabilitative Psychology. So, When I heard about the Center of Hope, I arranged for an appointment to take a tour of the facility. Walking in, I was warmly greeted by 2 female staff members and I was pleased to see the cleanliness and up keep of the facility. They showed me through their Chapel which allows for individualized spiritual guidance in a cozy setting and an on-site medical clinic where women and children can get up to date immunizations. I was allowed to look in on an ongoing life-skills class which teaches everything from cooking to practice role playing to perfect interview skills with staff and volunteers. They also provide an in house leaning center with computers and supplies to update resumes, exercise area with equipment and a licensed day care facility for children 8 weeks through pre-k. When looking at facilities that offer assistance to the community and a program that rebuilds lives, I look for those who offer restoration of the whole person: Mind, body and Soul. In my observations and assessment, the Center of Hope exceeds this tri-fold criteria and I cannot wait to start volunteering with this facility so that I too can start to make a difference for the women and children of my community.
